Viktor&Rolf Exhibition - Fashion Statements
September 2024
Fashion and Haute-Couture lovers will be thrilled by the large, lovingly curated exhibition.
Until October 6, 2024, the Kunsthalle in Munich is showing a major exhibition by Dutch designer duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren.
Their works, somewhere between couture and art, have already been worn by many prominent artists such as Madonna and Lady Gaga.
Their works have been embedded in several ballet productions as well as in an opera directed by Robert Wilson.
The exhibition shows around 100 pieces, which are brought to life for visitors through a loving presentation with numerous videos and sketches.
Princess Mabel commissioned Viktor&Rolf to design an extravagant wedding dress.
The satin dress, decorated with 264 silk bows, required more than 600 hours of work.
The bows were chosen as a symbol of eternal love.
Viktor&Rolf also liked to use bows and ribbons in their later works.
In the Flowerbomb collection, the designers created several dresses with artfully staged, exuberant bows.

Dolls
Since 2006, designers Viktor Rolf have been making dolls that carry the most famous pieces from their collections. It takes three weeks to make a doll in the studio. The porcelain heads and bodies of the dolls are produced in collaboration with a Belgian master dollmaker. Every detail of the clothes from the Ready-to-Wear and Haute-Couture collections was lovingly reproduced in the studio. The dolls are named after the respective model who showed the look on the catwalk at the time.
Flowerbomb” collection
The presentation of the Ready-to-Wear collection was also the launch of the designer’s first perfume. At the beginning of the show, the models wore all-black creations. With pyrotechnic fireworks, the stage set turned and the models showed the previous dresses in shades of pink and gold.
Viktor&Rolf launched their first own perfume “Flowerbomb” on the market in 2005.
The perfume bottle is shaped like a diamond and is considered an indestructible stone.
Flowerbomb was created by the noses of Carlos Benaim, Domitille Michalon-Bertier and Dominique Ropion.
The fragrance consists of the main essences of jasmine, rose, freesia and peony, enriched with bergamot and patchouli oil and amber.
The flower was also repeatedly used as a motif in her later works, for example in the Haute-Couture collections Van Gogh Girls (2015) and Surreal Satin (2018).
